Village Križevci is located within the Goričko Nature Park, on its north-east part in the municipality Gornji Petrovci. The settlement is combined of five hamlets, spread on ridges and three valleys, which in Dol flow into Mala Krka. The name of the village Križevci comes from the chapel of St. Cross. The oldest record of the name Križevci is from the year 1405. In the settlement there is an Evangelical church, by which the cemetery is located. From here a beautiful view opens over the ridges of Goričko. We can go for a walk towards Tetajni bank, where seven-hundred year old giant chestnut tree still stands.

It is a pleasant hump environment with big mixed forests, which are located in completely peaceful and clean environment. They allow short as well as longer trips, picking the mushrooms, strawberries and chestnuts.

CHAPEL OF ST. CROSS

First records about the chapel are from visitation notes from year 1627, which say it belongs to saint Benedict. Original chapel was a branch of Gornji Petrovci, in middle ages it was connected with them by land lords.

The report from year 1698 says: »The chapel is in the village itself, dedicated to the praise of the saint Cross. Around the chapel is the cemetery. The little church is covered with shingles. The tower is built from bricks, and in it are two bells; it is also covered with shingles. The nave has wooden ceiling, choir and pulpit are also wooden. Shrine is arched, in it resides a stone table, which serves as the altar. The chapel has a meadow for two waggons of hay that is on the north side of the chapel. Older citizen tell that the chapel was, in years 1872 and 1873, torn down by Sunday provisor Karel Fodor, he used its material to build the outbuilding next to new rectory in Gornji Petrovci. Villagers strongly resisted against this demolition. Due to that the provisor Fodor had to accompany the drivers with the rifle on the shoulder, so they could upload and drive away the material.
