Javornik is a wooded mountain with 1240 meters of altitude. It is located south-east from Črni Vrh. The top of the mountain alone is overgrown with trees and because of that the view is limited. With the purpose of offering a view, in year 1972 a wooden lookout tower was erected on the top, which rises above tree line and offers exceptional view.

From the tower in nice weather we can see Dolomites, Julian and Carnic Alps, Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Karavanke and Snežnik. Between these tops we can also see Cerkno and Škofja Loka hill chain, part of Ljubljana basin, part of Trieste gulf and inner hills. In wet conditions the rise on the tower is dangerous, due to slippery conditions and is on your own risk. The rise is not recommended to the people, who have fear of heights.

Also Javornik did not escape the faith of second World War. Here Italians did not built forts, as it is seen on all other peaks along the border. But here they directed a military road, but in spite of this they did not built a military outpost. Top of Javornik enrolled in history of NLS. As farms of this lonely slope offered safe shelter to fighters of National liberation army (NLA). But they were betrayed, this traitor was not local. Due to his credit 47 fighters of NLA lost their life on Javornik.
Javornik is accessible from all sides – from Črni Vrh, Hotedršica, Col and Podkraj. Northern side is more steep and overgrown with bushes and forest. On this side are only a few homesteads. On southern side are farms scattered to the altitude above 1000 meters. The highest is Medved homestead.
