Ludvik Kukavica was born in year 1908 in Zgornji Kašelj near Ljubljana, he died in year 1982. In elementary school, he completed only finished 6. He was a builder by profession and employed as unqualified worker in construction. His perspective was to work for worker’s association, like Freedom and Mutuality, at the time were in function in his town. He decided to work for association Mutuality, where he was nicely accepted. Always active and in forefront, he gained the interest of the police, which had, after every manifestation he attended, brought him for interrogation and later locked him in prison. These incidents had made him politically mature, and he advanced to the position of a committee member and later became the secretary. Due to his commitment, he became the president of Mutuality association He was very fond of reading and education and in WWII he became left-winged political activist. When Yugoslavia capitulated, in April 1942, he was among the first to become a member of NLS movement. On 16.7.1941 he joined a partisan group on Pugled from which the II. group detachment was formed in the year 1942. And right here he experienced his baptism by fire, when Germans invaded Janče; Germans had lost this fight. Soon he became commissioner of the unit, and at that time his song was formed ”There at Pugled is burning”, due to which he became a known folk poet.
