Lookout point, Slovenian Gledanica, is located on the top of Štanjel hump or Turn, which separates Karst plateau from Vipava valley. Because of its geographical location, it was an important strategic observational and control point. On the Lookout point are preserved remains of Roman observatory and defense tower, from here Romans once controlled the passage to Italy. The top of the hump has preserved the local name Gledanica or Lookout point, which leads to the conclusion that the hump was later used as an observation and signal tower.
On the top an exceptional view to all sides opens, we can watch the Alps, Trnovski gozd (en. Trnovo forest), Vipava valley, Nanos, diversity of Karst plateau with surrounding villages, forests, pastures and fields. Until 1935, hump showed its naked stone image. Part of the hump rises above Medieval walls, this part was in 1930 of 20th century afforested with pine trees by Max Fabiani, part on the western side was afforested in the 1950s with cedars.
We can ascent to Lookout point along the walking path, which leads through Štanjel or along with Fabiani path re through Ferrari garden.
