Branica valley is a valley of river Branica, after which the valley was named. Torrential river Branica once presented an additional water source to the inhabitants of Štanjel. The valley notches in the humps between Vipava valley and Karst plateau. It is intertwined with numerous larger and smaller streams, which flow into torrential Raša and river Branica. Locals also call the valley the small Vipava valley, it is located behind Vipavska brda. The valley is less populated and with less traffic.
Branica valley is peaceful and with forests overgrown valley, which not only invites the cyclists but also beekeepers, as the bees have here abundant spring pasture. The valley is fertile and is entirely controlled by the parish church of Sv. Urh in Britof on the northern side of the valley, and the castle Rihemberk on lookout hill on the southern side.

Štanjel
Štanjel is located on the northeastern edge of Karst plateau, it is combined by old part or Gornja vas, which is located on the slope of Turn and newer part or Dolnja vas. It is one of the oldest settlements on Karst, it was written for its old city center. It got its name after the patron of the church, St. Danijel. [_Read more_]
