4th January 1797 first Lublana news had begun to be published, first as half-weekly newspaper, later weekly newspaper. They had been published until 27th December 1800, they are known as first Slovenian newspaper. Initiative for it came from Žiga Zois, what Valentin Vodnik made it happen, as first editor, writer, translator and technical designer.

Newspaper Lublana news was released in 100 copies, it had 33 regular subscribers. It had been published for three years and in this time 12.000 copies were published on total 78.000 pages. The content of Lublana news was fun and instructive. It contained news from politics, economics and culture. In the time of publishing they were quite current, they had four days delay in publishing. Approximately the news followed Winer Zeitung, but by idea they followed new Enlightenment and patriotic ideas.
