On December 26th in Slovenia we celebrate the independence and unity day. This day commemorates the declaration of the plebiscite of independence in year 1990. Plebiscite itself was held on December 23rd 1990. 93,2% of all voters participated in the plebiscite, and they were answering the following question ”Should Slovenia become independent and autonomous country?”. 88,5% of all voters said yes, and with that Slovenia starts its independence. Till the year 2005 the holiday was named only day of independence, but with the change of the Law on Public Holidays and work-free days, unity was added to the name. The reason for that was, at that time Slovenians showed the highest extent of unity in all of its history.
