Snežnik is a white mountain, as it was named by Romans, an elevation, which lies at the passage between the Adriatic seas and the European continent. Snežnik forests are giant connected forest land at the passage from the Littoral region to inner Slovenia. The area of Snežnik-Ždrocle represents old beech tree forests. In the year 2017, this area was registered under UNESCO world heritage.
From the parking lot in Loška valley, we will drive to the starting point, which will take us 30 minutes.
The path is circular. The start of the path is on the northern slope of Snežnik at the altitude of 1300 meters. In the beginning, it is steep, as we will walk on the edge of the remote forest reserve, which was reshaped 10.000 years ago with a force of the glaciers, which were sliding down from the top of the mountain. We will see and research Karst phenomena, remains of the glacier work, special Snežnik phenomenon named ždrocle, and elements of the primal forest.
The hike is demanding, suitable for people with good condition. You will need suitable footwear and clothes, walking sticks are recommendable.
The hike will be in any weather. Participation at your own risk. Welcome.
