Slovenia is a country in Central Europe. Slovenia borders Italy to the west (280 km), Hungary to the northeast (102 km), Austria to the north (318 km) and Croatia to the south and east (670 km). History of Slovenia is a history of all the people on the area of today’s Republic of Slovenia, and its close neighbourhood, since prehistory till today. The meaning of the name Slovenia, which remained unchanged through the years, appears only in year 1934 in a book of Russian historian Jurij Venelin: Ancient and today’s Slovenians.
